Surface treatment - for durable, high-performance parts

Surface treatment is an essential component of the Groupe ABCM’s know-how, guaranteeing our customers parts that are both durable and high-performance. The Group specializes in processes that improve the mechanical and chemical properties of metal parts.

ARCOR treatment

Optimum protection against corrosion and wear

ARCOR treatment offers protection against both corrosion and wear by enriching the surface of metal parts with nitrogen. This method which combines thermochemical diffusion and passivation significantly enhances the resistance of steels and cast irons, particularly in corrosive environments such as the aerospace and the offshore sector. Thanks to its enhanced resistance, ARCOR treatment can withstand over 700 hours in salt spray, even for complex parts, including those with welded or crimped assemblies, thus ensuring optimum protection. This process is particularly suited to parts exposed to high mechanical stress (loading, friction and torsion cycles), increasing their fatigue resistance and extending their service life.

One of the major advantages of ion nitriding is its ability to improve surface hardness while maintaining the material’s internal resilience. This ensures that components are more robust and less prone to wear or deformation, even under intensive operating conditions. The process is also environmentally friendly, generating less waste and emissions than other surface treatment methods.

By choosing ARCOR treatment, Groupe ABCM customers benefit from a reliable ion nitriding solution, optimizing both part durability and performance, while reducing maintenance costs and the risk of failure in the most challenging environments.

Induction hardening

Localized hardening for robust parts

Induction hardening is an advanced heat treatment technique used to selectively harden the surface of metal parts, while retaining high resilience at the core of the material. The process is based on localized induction heating, where the part is brought to a high temperature and then rapidly cooled. Thanks to precise control of the inductor’s frequency and shape parameters, this process ensures homogeneous hardening without excessive heat diffusion into the part’s core.

One of the main advantages of induction hardening is its ability to significantly improve the surface hardness of the material, thereby increasing resistance to fretting and fatigue under non-uniform stresses, such as bending, torsion, or rolling loads. This method is particularly effective for parts subject to demanding operating conditions, where durability and performance are crucial.

Furthermore, induction hardening generates low deformation, a major advantage in applications requiring high dimensional accuracy. The process also enables partial tempering or annealing, thereby adjusting the mechanical properties of the part to the specific requirements of the project. Thanks to its efficiency and precision, induction hardening is a preferred choice for a wide range of industrial sectors, including the automotive, aerospace and heavy industrial equipment.

Bead-blasting and polishing

High-quality finishing

To control roughness and improve the surface quality of manufactured parts, we offer bead-blasting and polishing services. These techniques ensure an impeccable finish, essential for optimum performance in critical industrial applications.

Bead blasting is a surface treatment process that involves projecting beads at high speed onto a metal part. This process cleans, strengthens and softens the surface of materials. Thanks to this treatment, the parts receive a uniform surface, which improves not only their aesthetic appearance but also their resistance to both wear and corrosion. It is a preferred choice for parts exposed to extreme conditions, as it creates a compressive layer that reinforces their durability.

Polishing for its part is a crucial stage in achieving a perfectly smooth and shiny surface. By removing irregularities and roughness, this treatment improves the visual and functional quality of parts, which is particularly important in sectors where appearance and precision are essential, such as aerospace. Polishing also reduces friction between moving parts, thereby extending their service life.

We often combine these two techniques to offer parts that are ready for use in the most demanding environments. Whether you need parts with specific finishes to withstand harsh industrial conditions or are looking for a perfect aesthetic surface, our bead blasting and polishing services will meet your requirements. Thanks to our expertise in surface treatment, we can guarantee our customers reliable, long-lasting parts.
